"It was just the kneejerk reactive outcry from seeing imagery that made the audience uncomfortable."

i really think you're onto something here. we get so wrapped up in "omg, uncomfortable!" or awkward or unpleasant or whatever, that we never stop to think about why any given work is messing with our emotions. and, since we never do that, we never have to confront those unpleasant emotions and learn to deal with them OR their source. it all seems so infantile.

(damn that aldous huxley and his fascinating theories that make me see everything in terms of brave new world.)

I was the guy who has the son with DS who asked the questions about exploitation. You were there so I won't rehash the night, but I wrote about it as well and thought you might find it interesting. I tried to be factual and not emotive. Some of the comments applaud me, but that was not my point in any way. I also hate the "puppy dog" caricatures of people with DS, as I wrote about in the two posts preceding my one on What Is It. (Pollyanna syndrome) I got a lot of flack for that.

You're right. Relativistic logic is irrefutable... except when it comes to killing snails. Or so he said.

Anyway, I thought you summed up the night well. Cheers.
