Ahahaha yes, I know it’s like over three months into the new year and everyone and their gerbil did this meme way back when, but I spent most of January in thesis and marking fugue and then work and more thesis stuff happened so... You get it now. Because I’ve done this pretty much every year and traditions are important. Well, some of them. My best story this year:
This is a surprisingly difficult question to answer, because I don’t think I wrote anything hugely spectacular last year. I mean, I’m rather fond of most of the fics I did, but no particular one really seems to rise above the rest. I’m pleased with:

• ‘Your Favorite Weapon’ for the story structure and managing to say stuff without saying it
• ‘she ate my heart’ and ‘take a bite of my bad girl meat’ for the sheer fucked-upness of them, and the indulgent, simile-saturated language
• ‘Sharpen Thy Mind, Fasten Thy Heart’ for pulling off the technical details without losing the eroticism
• ‘To See Clearly’ and ‘The Bells of Oxford’ for the world-building

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
I don’t know, some days I feel like giving up on the notion of appreciation. I’m kind on fringes of several fandoms, lately dabble mostly in the smaller ones and am getting increasingly uncaring about pimping my fic. Anyway, let’s say ‘Closed Change - Part 2/3’ because that fandom is practically non-existent or ‘Your Favorite Weapon’ just because I was apparently far more fond of it than the reading audience.

Most fun story to write:
‘innocence for days’ because it was sheer authorial wish-fulfilment and ‘Closed Change - Part 2/3’ because co-writing with pushkin666 is always fun

Fluffiest story:
‘Mixtape series’ I think. That was just me indulging in my love of the ‘confessing feelings through songs’ cliché.
They Say It's Your Birthday was also pretty fluffy, or maybe ‘romantic’ is a better word.

Most angsty story:
‘Closed Change - Part 2/3’ was nothing but angst. Like, epic amounts of emoting and sitting in dark rooms and doubting own self-worth angst. Loved it.
‘be a burning star’ also for the sheer ‘and then they all die’ factor.
Oh, and ‘more than good hooks’ was heart-wrenching.

Sexiest story:
Huh, so the answer to this includes a fucked up f/f story: ;take a bite of my bad girl meat’ and a het one with a kink that isn’t even strictly speaking really mine (much): ‘Sharpen Thy Mind, Fasten Thy Heart’. Remember when I used to write lots of m/m porn with bdsm overtones. Those were the days eh?

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Eh, idk, if I did anything too far out of ordinary for me... I did incest (‘In Your Eyes, the Valleys’), serial killers (‘show me your teeth 2 & 3’), Incest and serial killers (‘Sharpest Lives’). Uh, needle play in ‘Sharpen Thy Mind, Fasten Thy Heart’?

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
All the Lewis fics really. First time writing in this fandom and it helped to cement the characters and voices in my head. Same goes for ‘innocence for days’ and ‘In Your Eyes, the Valleys’

Hardest story to write:
I don’t remember struggling hugely with any of the fics last year. There were some tricky bits like slotting in all the technical details about needle play in ‘Sharpen Thy Mind, Fasten Thy Heart’ and the ending of ‘Your Favorite Weapon’ went through several rewrites. Hardest at emotional level and in terms of the subject matter was ‘more than good hooks’.

Biggest Disappointment:
As always, this is simply ‘not finishing more fics’, particularly for unmarked_place.

Biggest Surprise:
Lewis was a surprise fandom of the year in terms of actually writing stuff in it and organising various things over at lewis_challenge I also wrote two het stories this year which is out of the ordinary for me.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
‘more than good hooks’ - although I take exception with the ‘unintentionally’ part. pushkin666 and I have made no qualms about the fact that the whole unmarked_place ‘verse is more or less ‘our thoughts on kink and bdsm, let us show you them’. And even beyond that I tend to over-identify a lot with Ryan for various reasons, which is why writing him is both hard and vaguely therapeutic.

Story I haven't yet written, but intend hope to:
Lol lol oh god so many things I want to write or finish. Doesn’t mean I will. In fact, I’m positive I won’t. But, let’s list them by fandom anyway. For kicks.

• Dancer RPS (Got To Dance, Diversity) - I can feel you all judging and yet I don't care
  • pushkin666 and I have 40k of Adam Garcia/Ashley Banjo fanfic done which may or may not see the light of day this year, depending if we ever stop just writing it
  • We also have 107k of another fic done for this pairing, but this one is an AU to such drastic degree that it’s going to end up as a ‘file off serial numbers’ original m/m romance, but again I’m not sure when we’ll actually just stop adding to it so...
  • There is another fic with a different pairing in the works but it’s such a special hell project that I’m trying very hard to pretend that we’re not writing it. Also likely to end up as ‘file off serial numbers’ original m/m story.

• Bandom, unmarked_place ‘verse:
  • Continuation to ‘more than good hooks’, possibly spans two additional fics
  • Short Nate/Victoria puppy play piece
  • Short Lindsey & Gerard gen piece to compliment New Horizons and give some background to those characters

• Bandom
  • Frank/Gerard ‘stage D/s dynamic bleeds to RL’ fic
  • Ryan/Spencer roommates AU where they move together and are domestic and rescue a kitten, idek it’s completely self-indulgent
  • Ryan’s pov companion fic to Access All Areas (tentatively titled: ‘Underneath Your Clothes’). This is an idea that just won’t leave me alone, and I know just how I want it to be, the feel of it, but I don’t know if I can yet do justice to it and write it down.
  • Almost-magical-realism-somewhat-experimental-half-poetry waycest fic where Mikey sort of grows wings. Or does he?
  • The fucked up waycest ficlet where they keep making out in semi public places
  • The Patrick/Pete wrist!kink fic
  • The Gerard/Patrick artist AU that’s been in limbo for far too long.

• Doctor Who
  • The epic Doctor/Master fic that I still dearly love but can’t seem to be able to advance.

• Lewis
  • The publishing house!AU pushkin666 and I want to co-author
  • Possibly a continuation to one of the three AUs I kind of started for this fandom. Oh self.
