Ashakiran - When Earth Dies

WARNING: The following piece contains child prostitution.
I in no way, shape, or form promote or support this vile and evil perversion of children, however it is necessary because it is the past of two of my characters. There are not great details and the act is not portrayed at all, but it still might disturb some. Please read with caution and at your discretion. (If you choose not to read but would still like a summery of who it is and what is going on just leave me a comment and I would be happy to do so for you). Please see the authors note at the end for more information.

When Earth Dies.

Year 3227, 6th Cycle, 3rd Period

No one had been prepared for when the Earth began to die. Science said it could happen, humans knew it was heading that way, but still everyone was surprise as piece by piece it died. Small bit by small bit was laid to waste by pollution, depletion of resources, and too many years of too much damage.

Small bit by small bit, pieces of the Earth ceased to be capable of sustaining life. At first it was only areas no larger than a tiny town that turned dry and barren, devoid of life. Although the humans tried to stop it from spreading, it did, like the plague.

By the year 2,550, it was evident that some locations on the Earth could not be inhabited by human life any longer. With this new evidence of their failure, many humans moved from solutions to restoring the Earth, to solutions that would allow human kind to simply survive.

Though many solutions failed, in the year 2,603 scientists finally found success. They created a dome in small town in rural China that could sustain its own climate within, and shelter all life inside from the ever worsening Earth climate. Immediately plans were put into motion for a much larger scale dome to be created.

Some doubted that the scientists would ever be able to successfully complete a project on such a large scale. As an alternate solution one of the space stations, Alpha III, was converted into civilian living area and people began flooding into space. Previous space stations such as the forested Fauna IV that had been used to study plant live in isolation became a model for building pieces of Earth in space. In 2,618 the first successful space colony was created by the United States of America. It could sustain itself completely independently allowing its residents to have a life so like Earth that they would never realize they had left.

In 2,658 the first large scale Dome appeared, covering much of what was once known as mainland China. This dome would become known as the Asia Dome and could easily support the billions of civilians in Asia. Throughout the world, following the model of the Asia Dome, more large scale domes began to appear. The last of them, the North American Dome appeared in 2,714 only days before the deadly Fire Wind (as civilians came to call it) swept through the Earth, destroying any remaining livable climates.

However by the early 2,800s it was clear that while the Domes were working, the population was growing too large to be supported in them. It was suggested that all who wished, could find more space and work opportunities on the scientific research planets (planets that were much like the Earth had been when it was healthy) in nearby galaxies. With this news, people began to leave by the millions.

By the early 3,000, the planets were no longer considered scientific communities, but had developed into their own very separate and unique worlds running independent of Old Earth and the Domes that remained.

Currently little is known about the state of Earth beyond the safety of the Domes. Most scientists suspect that the dead area that exists immediately outside the Dome goes on forever, leaving the world uninhabitable outside the sanctuaries. Others believe that the dead area exists in a ring around the Dome, a product of continual expulsion of waste from the Dome itself. They believe that the Earth has regenerated itself and been reborn anew beyond the ring. Many speculate that if one goes far enough they can find-

“Hey!” a young boy exclaimed as the book was ripped from his hands. “I was reading that!”

“You can read it later,” another boy with long blond hair returned as he flung it across the room and then placed his hands on his hips.

“Leeteuk!” the first boy snapped, surging to his feet. “I paid good service to get my hands on that information!”

Leeteuk scowled, his tiny lips pressing downwards. “You have waited years to learn about it. You can wait a few more hours, Heechul.”

“What if I don’t want to? Besides I don’t want to work with you on a job anyway,” the boy said belligerently, tugging at the deep red kimono that was wrapped around his body and matched his hair.

“Great because I don’t want to work with you either!” Leeteuk snapped back, turning to the mirror and smoothing down his own white kimono.

“Leeteuk! Heechul!” a woman’s voice preceded her into the room. She stormed in and took one look at them before throwing up her hands in disgust. “Honestly Heechul, I don’t know why I bother,” she muttered as she grabbed his slender wrist tightly and dragged him over to the vanity.

“Ow you are hurting me,” Heechul hissed in protest.

“It is nothing less than you deserve,” she snapped sharply, shoving him onto the stool forcefully. “At least Leeteuk has the decency to do his makeup. All you do is lie about,” she uncapped a dark eyeliner and attacked Heechul, holding his chin firmly to keep him from squirming. “I raise you both from the time you were babes until now, almost twelve full years and this is the payment I get! You should be ashamed of yourselves!”

“I’m sorry,” Heechul muttered, stilling and allowing her to work on him.

She was finished shortly and tugged him up to stand so she could arrange his clothing to her satisfaction. Heechul sent a heated glare past her to Leeteuk, who looked slightly guilty. “You’ll do,” she declared. “Now come you two, we can’t keep this guest waiting.”

Flowing from the room she led the way down the hall leaving them to follow. Both boys knew the consequences of not doing so and trudged after her, being certain to keep their footfalls light and graceful as they had been taught. Heechul pretended to be angry with Leeteuk until they had almost reached their destination and a small hand closed with his own. He squeezed it, trying to offer reassurance that he didn’t feel. “Maybe they will be nice this time,” he whispered. A sharp look from the woman kept Leeteuk from answering verbally but he nodded his agreement.

The woman stopped in front of a door and slid it open, bowing deeply to the man inside. “I hope we haven’t kept you waiting long sir,” she said smoothly.

“Of course not,” the man’s voice sounded kind enough. She flicked her fingers, their cue to move, and both boys moved into the doorway beside her hand in hand. The man grinned then, and his smile was anything but nice. “They truly are Fire and Light as you have said,” he told her with a leer towards them.

“They will make your evening very much worth your while, sir,” she assured.

“I certainly hope so,” he told her. Then he waved her off and fixed his attention on the boys. Heechul heard the sound of the door sliding closed behind them and he squeezed Leeteuk’s hand again. “Come here little Light,” the man beckoned. “And you little fire, off with the clothing, let me see all that pale skin.”

Obediently Leeteuk pulled away and crossed the room to the man with his head down. Heechul’s fingers searched for and found the tie holding his clothing on and he began to undo it with practiced motions. His fingers worked quickly and efficiently and his mind slid away to anything but the reality of his location. As silk whispered against his skin, he wondered briefly if that is what it had felt like, a small whisper of terror and serge of fear, when the life on the Earth had withered away into nothing.

Masterlist - Chronological Story List or Written Order Story List

AN: As much as I hated to write that, it is a fact that it exists in our world today, much less a nearly dead world of the future and it is key to the two characters in this universe. If you didn't pick up already, this is set in the same universe as Finding Nothing and is the first of the 500 challenge fics that I am going to write. I will provide a master list with all of the prompts as well as two others, one that will list the pieces in the order I write them and another that will list them in chronological order in the universe.

I have decided to call this entire universe Ashakiran (pronounced [ash ah KIR an]) which is the name of Heechul's ship and means 'Ray of Hope'. I will be writing in it periodically when I am bored or feel like dabbling in it, but because of that I can't guarantee how often you will see updates for this universe. I hope you all enjoy this journey as we take it.

Thanks to saanrio who gave me the character to focus on with this one. ^_^
