From the Soul to the Song
Book One: Melody of the Ensouled
Verse Thirty Five

Heechul wasn’t too surprised when they stepped through the portal back to the edge of the bed they had woken in hours ago. The bed was simple yet comfortable with a tent of semi-see through fabric protecting it from direct sunlight. At first Heechul, Hankyung, and Siwon, who had woken with them, had been surprised and curious at its location on the edge of what appeared to be a desert oasis. Now Heechul could care less about where the bed was located.

He released Hankyung’s hand and flopped face first onto the soft mattress. He groaned as he buried his face in the fabric that smelled of summer and of life. It was nice but he would rather be burying his face in something that smelled of detergent and Hankyung. That was home. This was something else, something that he couldn’t define, something that seemed to be unreal in every sense of the word.

Hankyung sat on the bed beside him and rested his hand on Heechul’s back. The older man arched his back up slightly, much like a cat who desires to be pet would. The Chinese man smiled to himself but obediently began running his hand along Heechul’s back. He sighed and turned his head to the side to gaze out unseeing at the scenery around them.

“Heechul?” Hankyung asked after a few moments.

“I can’t help thinking that I made the wrong choice,” Heechul said softly.

“What?” the other man’s voice was confused.

“I chose this for us. We were the first ones and we could have said no. We always had the choice. If we said no, none of this would have happened. The worst problems that we would have faced were exhaustion and entirely unjust contracts. Nothing that would destroy us, our friends and the whole world with it,” Heechul replied bitterly.

Hankyung sighed. He was familiar with Heechul’s self doubt, although typically it took more than a little alcohol to get him to verbalize it. “It would have happened anyway. Our being involved doesn’t make it real. The Dark Ones would have been here with or without our involvement.”

Heechul groaned and sat up. Then he laughed as if he found something particularly funny. “Without us, Yunho and his group would have probably fought Keiran. What would they have done? Sung him to death?”

“Be nice,” Hankyung scolded but he was smiling.

“I was,” Heechul replied with a smile. “Screw the world anyway.”

“You don’t mean that.”

“For the next twenty four or even possibly forty eight hours, I sure as hell do. I have a secluded bed and you and if anyone wants to interrupt that I will fry them, sealed powers or not.”

Hankyung shook his head at the ridiculousness of the man in front of him. “Do you plan to eat at any point in time?”

“Just you,” Heechul replied with a leer.

“Alright what have you been reading?” Hankyung asked as he shoved Heechul playfully. “That isn’t sexy in the least bit and I thought I told you to stay away from fanfiction.”

“But they give me such fun ideas,” Heechul shifted to his knees so that he could stalk forward. “For example there are a few key phrases I could say that would leave you begging for more.”

Hankyung reached out and placed a hand on Heechul’s forehead. “In your dreams princess,” he said as he shoved. The force knocked Heechul off balance and caused him to go sprawling across the bed. Hankyung was laughing as he climbed from the mattress and stepped a few feet away.

He shuffled to one of the long sturdy poles holding the canopy up. There he leaned against the pole and parted the fabric so that he could have an unobstructed view of the world they were in. A sigh escaped his lips as his mood shifted. He heard the rustle of the sheets as Heechul slipped from the bed and the soft footfalls across the ground.

“How long are you going to run from this? From me?” Heechul asked quietly from just behind him.

“I’m not running.”

“Stop lying to yourself. We both know the truth,” Heechul replied firmly.

“Heechul you don’t understand-”

“Don’t I? Hangeng, we were one in every sense of the word. I have all of your memories still, if I really think about them. I think I understand as well as you do and what I understand is that you are scared.”

“I’m not-”

“No,” Heechul said firmly cutting him off. “You are terrified that what happened was you, not Keiran. You’re terrified that you wanted to leave the marks. You’re even terrified that it was you that wanted to cut me.”

“Heechul,” Hankyung sounded broken.

“So what?”

Hankyung’s head snapped up and he spun to face Heechul. “So what? I might have wanted to hurt you and you say so what?”

“You didn’t want to hurt me,” Heechul replied firmly.

“You just said-”

“I know what I said. You didn’t do it to hurt me, you, the you that would have done any of that, would have done it for me and for my pleasure. You may have wanted to mark me, to toy with the line of pain and pleasure. So what? I can take whatever you can give. I worked for months on a leg fresh from surgery. You think I can’t take pain?”

“Heechul what is between us should never be about pain,” Hankyung said firmly.

“I would agree with you if that was all that was between us, but it isn’t. It’s more and you know that too. Hangeng, I can tell almost anything to Jungmo and Mithra and a few other people, but you are the only one who I can tell and show everything too. You are the only person who gets to know a lot of things.”

Heechul took a step closer and lowered his voice, “You are the only one who gets to know that when you grab me and throw me on a bed I get unbelievably turned on.”

Hankyung had to smile at that. “I think Jungmo might be able to guess that one.”

“But you are the only one who has confirmation,” Heechul, ran his hand up Hankyung’s chest. “You’re the only one that gets to know that I lose control when you pin me to the mattress.” His hands slid up and around until they settled at the back of Hankyung’s neck.

The other man’s hands rested unsurely on Heechul’s hips. “Heechul I don’t think I can go there yet,” he said softly.

“How long are you going to make me wait?” Heechul asked. “I’m tired of waiting. You can’t get any closer then we were when we were fused. This is just sex.”

“Heechul,” Hankyung admonished. “This has never been just sex.”

“Fine. Think of it as healing or therapy or whatever you need to,” Heechul muttered.

Hankyung paused for a moment before giving in. It would be a waste of breath to argue with Heechul anyway; the man always got what he wanted, more so when there was nothing to distract him from it, “Can we just take it slow?”

Heechul snickered. “Sort of like our first time was nice and slow?”

Hankyung blushed at that. “Not my fault. Our second time was slow at least.”

“It was,” Heechul hummed as he pressed his body closer to Hankyung. “I don’t care how fast you do things, I just need you.”

“Alright,” Hankyung agreed. He leaned down and pressed their lips together. Kissing Heechul was so familiar that it was easy for him to fall into that, his lips becoming pliant as Heechul demanded more from him. The kiss and Heechul’s hands, one holding the back of his neck insistently and the other struggling to get under the mass of fabric that was his shirt, did a lot distract him as they worked back towards the bed.

“Off,” Heechul growled, a moment later as he broke their kiss long enough to pull his own shirt from his body and watch Hankyung do the same. Instantly their lips were connected again, bare chests pressing together. It was nice and familiar, both feelings that kept Hankyung’s mind from panicking. His body remembered this and craved it very much, if his reaction to the kissing and touching was any indication.

No amount of kissing was enough to distract him when they tumbled back onto the bed with Heechul on his back and Hankyung half sprawled on top of him. Hankyung tense and shifted to move, memories that he didn’t want flashing back to him. Heechul corrected the issue beautifully with a growl and the smooth motion of flipping them so that Hankyung was lying beneath him.

On his back, Hankyung gave into his partner’s incessant hands, mouth and body, loosing himself to the touch that he had gone so long without. He didn’t try to stop the sounds of his pleasure and Heechul clearly took in each and every one, returning them in turn. Seconds blended into minutes that blurred into a time without measure. Heechul and the path of his body was the only thing he was aware of.

Even when Heechul’s mouth settled over the place above his heart, tongue teasing the scarred flesh, Hankyung didn’t feel the revulsion he thought he would. “Don’t,” he still said softly, ashamed of the mark. Heechul glared at him telling him without words that he would do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted and fixed his mouth back on the spot. Hankyung stopped arguing a minute later and when Heechul brought him to completion with his hand stroking down the length of him and his mouth still over the scar, it was something imperfect yet so perfect at the same time.

“Please, Hangeng,” Heechul breathed a few minutes after he had allowed the other man enough time to recover.

“Please what?” Hankyung asked, with a smirk as he rolled onto his side to look at the panting aroused man.

“You know what,” Heechul said darkly, “and if you make me say it like you make me in fanfictions, I will just pleasure myself.”

Hankyung laughed then, unsure whether the idea was pleasurable or simply funny. “Oh I don’t know. I do find it a turn on when you tell me what you want.”

“You know what I want? I want you to get over your issues and be with me like you used to be,” Heechul snapped.

There was something about the way he said that was so Heechul and something entirely indescribable that it put Hankyung at ease, and when he rolled over and covered Heechul’s body with his own it was without a single flash of fear or bad memory. “I might be able to do something like that,” he told the man beneath him as his hands ran along Heechul’s body.

“About damn time,” Heechul moaned as he arched up into the touch.

Hankyung laughed warmly before kissing his lips lightly. “I do love you, Heechul.”

“Really? Then prove it?” Heechul replied.

Laughing, Hankyung painted a trail of light kisses down his neck. “That is defiantly a line from a fanfiction.”

When he raised his head to look at Heechul again the man was smiling widely, a true and joyous smile. “Maybe it was but I sort of like it.”

“Me too,” Hankyung agreed. He leaned in and pressed their lips together and began to do everything in his power to ‘prove’ it to the man beneath him. In the end Heechul believe those three little words, not that he had ever doubted them for a moment in the first place.

AN: I cannot believe that this is the end of the first book. It has been a crazy trip to finish this. This is the first fiction of any length that I have ever finished and I am so excited and proud of it. More then that I couldn’t do it without all of my fantastic readers. Your comments and encouragements kept me excited and made me want to write more and more for you. The motivation you all gave me was amazing.

I also want to thank my little sister kimiri_elric who let me tell her all about my crazy ideas and corrected my spelling issues. fangirlnumber3 who all betaed for me but did some crazy fangirling on my chapters that made me so very excited. Finally I want to thank hoshi14 who sat in my car and around the house with me listening to me throw out ideas and was never afraid to tell me when something was dumb or didn't work. This story could have never been the way it is without her help in thinking it all out and her skills a betaing. Thank you very much roomie! ^_^

So book one is done guys and I would love to hear what you have to say about it, even if you have never commented before. The soundtrack will be following sometime later in the week and I swear I will do all of the drabbles that still need to be done.
