[Fandom] Reborn fandom needs an intervention

Someone please explain to me how 6918 seems "unlikely at the least." And by "unlikely," I'm assuming "more unlikely than any of the other slash pairings in the fandom, i.e. D18, 1827, 8059, 6927, etc etc." Please. Feel free to use charts and Venn diagrams too, if need be. Context hereJust. Jesus christ. The likelihood of any of the fabulously ( Read more... )

Damn, if 6918 is a crack pairing, I'd hate to see her opinion on some other pairings. Why she's singling out 6918 is really weird.

If I still felt up to picking her brain, I would've asked her about her thoughts on 8018 or Reborn/Lambo. And if she thought those were more "canonical" than 6918 then I'd have to start questioning if we were even talking about the same series.

I have no answers for you, but I feel that if anyone could understand the inner brain workings of these types of fans they would be candidates for Bodhisattva status.

No arguments there. I think I can make some sociologically sound theories, but to truly understand them... I think you'd have to be one of them. And in doing so, you'd have to lose your right mind.

Man, I feel old.

Oh I just looove talking about this fandom issue. Especially after a certain ship has been getting ridiculously pandered to of late in canon, some fans feel they have a right to ride over other fans since, apparently, that means their OTP is totally moar canon, right? LOLOL.

What manga of which publication are we reading again?

It's such a riveting topic. Absolutely fascinating. Too bad it's also a thankless exercise in blood-pressure raising futility.

Oh, oh, I know! Maybe we've been reading a different edition all along, from a different publisher, with a different translator. You know how those things can get lost so, so easily. Maybe Kyoko's name is actually Hibari and Tsuna's name is supposed to be Dino and we've just been getting the wrong version. Silly translators.

I was gonna say that said fan probably views every pairing not officially established by the mangaka as "crack" pairing... but that technically applies to every yaoi pairing. I guess she just doesn't view hate/love relationships as canon ahaha.

I thought that too but then isn't calling ONE BL pairing in a shounen manga "cracky" sort of redundant? x___x It does seem as if this person has other "likelier" pairings in mind.

Yeaaaah. :\ That and she likes Zoro/Sanji from One Piece which kinda defies the "all BL pairings in shounen manga are cracky" attitude.

From the short time i've been in Reborn fandom, I've never seen 6918 as a crack pairing- they're like SenRu for me (though I don't hate 6918, I'm just not interested in Hibari). Both are hot and incredibly competent, one is a bit of a cold bastard and the other is a laid-back, confident BAMF who just gets in your face at the most inopportune times. (Okay, weak simile but you get what I mean.)

You know me, every pairing has potential (dude, 80D is still my choice of poison) but I must admit that 6918 was one of those that jumped up on me when I was reading the manga, so anyone who says they just don't see it, has got to be blind or deaf or possibly undead.

Exactly! Every pairing has potential if you think hard enough and long enough on them. And it's not like Amano was skimping on the fodder/subtext/whatever when Mukuro was still gaying up the pages with his fabulous "POSSESS MAFIA TO TAKE OVER WORLD HUR HUR"-ness. Fans have shipped on far less. Faaaaaar less.

It's all subjective, but with the Reborn fandom, subjective = arbitrary TO THE MAX.
