How can I not respond to a drabble called "Ethics"?

I have a very soft spot for Dr. Cottle. I really love him and you just beautifully captured him.

To bear the truth or some form of the truth is not just a burden, but a privilege. And it is a privilege because it is based on trust.

later in the series, Adama has this beautiful conversation with Sharon about trust, when he sends her back to New Caprica. You do not trust people based on facts, figures and evidence, you trust them because you do. This is the real leap of faith.

Oh Cottle, how I love you! Can totally see this happening on the show!

It's always interesting to see this dynamic between Bill and Cottle, because the doctor is in such a unique position, his role putting him outside the normal constraints of chain of command. He won't break his professional code of ethics but he's got enough insight into these two individuals, enough personal interest in their welfare (and not just with regard to how that affects the Fleet)to urge Bill to find a way to talk to Laura. Of course that urging is done in his inimitably blunt and borderline insubordinate style!

This also gives us a hint of the Ishay we see later. One who defers to Cottle but clearly has her own mind and doesn't always agree with him.

And we got Billy as a bonus! Very enjoyable all round. Thank you.
