It's so hard to imagine the show without either of them on it for the majority of the episode! I'm such a huge fan of Sam's, so I'm really going to miss him.
John is Dobey!!!! ha! You said that, not me. You looooveee Dobey (sing it!) (oh hell, I love Dobey, too) I heart Dean very much, and of course he's 1/2 of the brother dynamic which plays so wonderfully, but yeah, I adore Sam. This episode looks very interesting, though. And I'm looking forward to seeing Mitch Pileggi very much. Yo, did you see the actor playing young John? I can't wait to see him in the part.
I've seen some artwork/backgrounds where they've added black liner to Sam and Dean both, paled them some, I think they might have been going for a vampiric look? But I like this one better. And now that I think of it, you're right, they both do a pout - only with Sam, it sometimes looks like he's making what he fandom calls his bitchface, ha. This fandom is so huge - there's tons of backgrounds and stuff available.
This picture came from back when the WB was airing it, and they did some good publicity stills and decent commercials. The CW does nothing much to promote the show.

Dean and Starsky have similarities certainly - not least the bandy legs ;P
Sam and Hutch? It's not *as* obvious to me, but I guess it is there!
