I know!  I know!  I'm back on LJ for one day, and already I've got a rant.

Well, if you expected anything different from kass-rants, you really didn't pay attention to the name on the door when you came in, didja ( Read more... )

Good for you in making that line between home and work life!! I worked as a seamstress from home for years and it was a nightmare trying to get folks to understand that line!! And I have disabled chat too!

Yeah. You really have to draw that line. I mean, I don't work 9 to 5. I work and then I take a break and then I work again. So it's not like I can easily say "No calls after 5pm" or "I don't work weekends". But we do have times that are off-limits and they need to be respected. =)

Yeah. We've always had hours on our website right near the phone number. But no one pays attention. We've had people call in the middle of the night! And frankly, people from California are the worse. Europeans and Asian have the courtesy to check the fricking time zone. Californians are convinced that everything runs on their time.

When you and I know the only proper time zone is Atlantic. =)

definitely an important item to stand your ground on... oh, and I feel similarly about ringing phones and IMs -- which is why my FB chat is turned off about 99.9% of the time.

-hope this customer gets the hint easily.

I think she will. I just wish the situation didn't make me feel like someone was prodding me with a stick. I react very badly to these intrusions. I wish it didn't affect me so.

Perhaps you could prepare a copy/ paste message saying that this is a personal page and instructing all RH enquiries to the appropriate place.
I really feel for you, and can imagine that timewasters who use personal messaging are just too annoying!
Best luck with this.

Yeah. It's not hard or time-consuming for me to say, "This is my personal FB page. Please help me keep my personal and business lives separate by emailing RH questions to [email] or calling us on [phone number]."

The thing that isn't so easy is stopping myself from feeling... I dunno... interrupted? demanded? I just wish it wouldn't happen at all. But that would mean people would think before they act, which most don't.

In the end, it won't kill me. =)

Yeah. Email is just so lovely. I prefer it above all else. I don't even have a cell phone because frankly I'd never answer it.

Thanks for still commenting on my LJ. =)

oh no no no no no!!!!

you are absolutely correct not to do work things when it's ME time. you EARNED that ME time by working your butt to the crack researching, making patterns, attending events, doing your website, all that good stuff. you DESERVE time off from work, just like anyone else.

TheEngineer, in his last job, was dealing with clients in china. we live in texas. they didn't care. his email and *phone* were going off at all hours of the night, and his boss' response was "they're clients, answer the phone".

you cannot live healthily with no down time. ENJOY your down time!! *hugs and hugs* (even though no, you've never met me and we aren't personal friends. *G*)
