Would the wool be an appropriate weight to use for mending an ancient wool rag rug, do you think?

Without seeing the rag rug, it's hard to say definitively. But I can tell you this: much of the wool I buy is sold by Woolrich as "rag rug wool". So it's very possible.

Do you need specific colours? I can't promise anything but as I'm pulling pieces out of the bags, I can tend to reds or greens or blues or yellows if there's plenty.

Eh - for $15 I'll take a chance! The rug is more muted colors, but random is just fine.

I'm actually glad the silk is gone. I'd have been tempted to make a kimono of scrap-silk, just because I can be quite mad that way.
