I agree that "acknowledge" was an extremely poor word choice. In other words, the university concedes, they certify, they hate to admit that this student has died. Welcome to the bureaucracy of the living.

So Miami was not your choice? Was this the quid pro quo for your rejection of Catholicism? Or were you simply too unsure to make the decision on your own? I'm sure your family meant well, but even the people who love you the most can be wrong. Sometimes you just have to walk away from their vision of your future. It's a hard thing to do, but so is living with regret.

Been there, done that - and saved my sanity by refusing to live up to parental expectations. I'm a poster child for the atypical firstborn, and my observations have lead me to believe that children with divorced parents never fit the mold. We're all mavericks of a sort.

Good Luck - Old Dem

Edit: It seems that my leaden brain could not decide between "have led" or "lead" - so I typed "have lead." Duh.

Three things influenced the decision to go to Miami:

1) The full ride.
2) I was convinced (by Grandma... though it is unfair to "blame" her for this)a degree from Miami meant more than a degree from OSU.
3) Miami has like 10,000 trees. 10,000 fucking trees!

Anyway....
