Last night I stayed up until 3ish perfecting a protest song playlist for Conservative Week 2007. There are many holidays that I'm particularly fond of. New X-mas and The Game come to mind, naturally, but when I really need a fix of irony, no better holiday than Conservative Week at Miami.

I wish all artists would make their own protest CDs so when I make playlists like this it would be easier to organize.

To further funk up your set list, I'd have to add "War" by Edwin Starr.

Wow - there are no songs performed by women. I'm not a Joan Baez fan, so I guess I'd have to throw in "Roll With It" by Ani DiFranco.

You can never have too much Neil Young - or Bob Dylan.

My own personal playlist would end with "Wake Me When It's Over" by Longwave. It's not a protest song, but it's how I feel some days - George W. Bush's presidency has been a fucking nightmare.

Duly noted.

It wasn't my intention to make this a sausage-fest, 'twas merely happenstance. I like Ani.

Notice: You turned me on to two of these.

Last year I sent an essay into Kent State's NPR station to win two tickets for my dad to the Dublin Irish Festival and for two tickets to Merlefest in North Carolina. The essay was mentioned on air, but did not win. I was bummed.

The only women I could think of was the Dixie Chicks, but that's a non-starter, because Nashville music sucks.

And: It was Masters of War, believe it or not.
