Never underestimate the power of taxation

So I decided and bite the bullet and empty my hard earned savings to pay taxes and some debt this month. I wrote out the checks and sent them off last week, Thursday. By Saturday, both Multnomah County and the State of Oregon had cashed the checks and removed the funds from my checking account. Multnomah County I can understand - that's almost ( Read more... )

Haha! Good for you.

Is this something that you'll be using a game console with and did you research anything about the lag associated with it?

And what did you get?

Not really - although I will be bringing the 360 home and grabbing a rental copy of Elder Scrolls this weekend. My main focus was getting hi-def in an LCD set that I could afford. Anyway, we bought this set that Costco had, 37" 1080HD LCD, ahitw ll inputs (including HDMI). I picked up a new DVD player with HDMI out for like $79. It's a Toshiba, and it allegedly "upsamples" the resolution to 720 or 1080. I don't know about that (Well, line doubling I know about) but I threw a couple of the Star Wars discs in, and it looks fantastic. WE'll be using hi-def only for DVD (and the XBOX if I can get it home from time to time), scine I refuse to pay Comcast an extra $5 per month for a box with component outs, just so I can watch freakin KGW in Hi-Def.

The DVD player upsampling probably means that it does all the processing work of changing the resolution to match your TV instead of letting the TV doing it. A better way to go, though you are unlikely to notice anything with DVDs as when the picture lags, it lags the sound along with it. As there is no interaction with anything, it looks just fine.

I had forgotten about CostCo - I'll have to check them out.
Thanks!

That's why I love living & working in the Couve. No state or county tax, and by buying my large ticket items in OR I save myself from the sales tax annoyance. Although they do get me whenever I buy a new vehicle, but that's only been a few hundred dollars each time, definately less then paying state tax each month.

I wonder what the net difference is between what you and I pay in taxes - sales, incomes, property, etc. I think you're probably coming out significantly ahead.
