Doctor Who

I just started watching Doctor Who.  It's fun, but I really don't like the monster-of-the-week episodes.  Is it ok if I just skip to Dalek/Cybermen/Big Bad episodes, or am I missing something important if I do that?

I've gotten as far as the first two episodes with David Tennant.

OH GOSH--don't skip Big Bad, they lead up to a big thing later. I usually skip the pig people in NYC. Crap...let me send Seven to you to tell you what you can skip without missing awesomeness.

UGGG. Pig people in NYC = awful. Glad I skipped it (once I figured it out).

Also, what is the fan consensus about the Doctor's companions? Rose was fun, not so sure how I feel about the second one. And after seeing David Tennant as the Doctor, I really don't like Eccleston as much.

It's funny, I went back and rewatched S1's Dalek recently and Eccleston was worming his way back a bit. But also you might be surprised by Smith as Eleven ( ... )

Wait, I read that wrong (though yes, skip the pigs.) Just starting S2?
Eee, I could make an argument for most of the episodes.

Tooth & Claw - Romp. Werewolf. Kicks off the buzzword for the season.
School Reunion - Nostalgia for bringing back Sarah Jane & K9, some Mickey development. And Anthony Stewart Head.
Girl in the Fireplace - Moffat, kick arse #2. Clockwork droids.
Cybermen et. all - Not my favorite, but has implications for Doomsday finale.
Idiots Lantern - Poodle skirts.
Impossible Planet/Satan Pit - Good with a lot of Ten&Rose.
Love & Monsters - Avoid.
Fear Her - Skip.
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Finale. Must.
