Ivy is the pits to remove, as it sends all those stolons. You really have to hoe it out and be prepared to pull out the occasional returning vines. I usually have dead headed roses to avoid rose hips, as they get too much strength out of the plant, which should be used towards new flowers [if it is a recurring bloomer, as most tea roses are].
That bright red rose is quite pretty, by the way. I love lilies, especially oriental lilies, that have a powerful scent.

Sounds like a lot stress...but I'm sure it'll be worth it! looking forward to more house & garden adventures :)
