They are selling a cute house we sometimes pass by when walking around in our part of the town (@Carsten: the one in the street between Woolworth and the old post office)
LOL. I doubt it's going to be anytime soon. But we will have to sit with a bank in the near future to talk about buying A house. Not particularly that one. I'm not sure if we would be allowed to cut down the tree in the backyard and that tree looks annoying, and that is just of the minor problems of that house. This house almost level with the ground and it's only 1 km away from the river Weser. If there is a flood, that is going to be a problem.
But yeah, the basics are: We want a normal sized house with a big enough backyard to grow some things and all of that in easy reach of the city, our working places and public transport. And for much less than 250.000 €. Peace of cake. Just not ^^;;;
Many old houses in Bremen only have about 80 m², which is not that much bigger than our current flat which is much too small....
Also, you need to factor in the space for the fortifications to defend your food from the starving hordes and all that!
You are right! I totally forgot about that. And the self-shooting equipment (are we allowed to have that in Germany?) But! there is a small farm just a few metres away (yes, there is actually a fam in the middle of the city, last one there; it even has pigs), so I'm hoping the starving hordes will go there first. Uhm...?
The price is normal for that size and the location in Bremen. Usually houses of 100 m² with a very small yard cost around 110.000 € in this area. But this house has a bigger backyard.
I see no reason to distrust a house that age, certainly it has been modernized along the way. Older houses are often much better built than modern ones . Location is of course the most important thing, for all sorts of reasons. It determines price, for one thing. For another, never buy a house situated low and where it might be flooded. Where the rain drains should be checked too.
80sqm is certainly small. Our small apartnent in Paris had 90, or a bit above, plus balconies.
