Well, it certainly looks better than the area near Dulles Airport. Of course, you can only get to Dulles by car or special airport bus.
The Metro does go to Reagan National airport [closer to the city], but the environment is basically a sea of parking lots... the story at most American airports.
Ah, well... I think Airport quite outside of the city have their pros and cons.
Not so many people living close to the airport is certainly a pro. Though it must be terrible bothersome that it takes you ages to get there -.-;;;
Our "village" airport here is IN the city. It takes you 12 minutes by tram to get to the city centre, which is very nice if you want to travel somewhere, but all the emissions from the planes certainly bother the people living there...
It's like this with many airports in Germany, which makes it AWFULLY difficult to enlarge them, as (rightfully), the citizens don't want even more emissions directly over their houses.
Here noise is more often the issue. The planes going down to [or coming from] Reagan airport follow the Potomac, so a plane goes overhead every few minutes.
For us, going to Dulles by the highway isn't too bad, about 30 minutes, because we are in a suburb going to another suburb, we take a peripheral road. Of course, if it's rush hour, all bets are off, it can take easily more than an hour!
Washington is famous for its traffic, not a good thing to be famous about. But we are famous also for our cherry blossoms, and we have had such a mild February that they have started!
