I love orchids! I have grown Thailand Vandas [easy in South Carolina] and Phalaenopsis. But I used to put them in a pine bark mixture. They all need to have a lot of air around the roots [the Vandas have hardly any other than aerial ones]. But I used to mist them once a day.
The problem with orchids, is that you start with one, and then another, etc. Addiction is easy!
Well... so far my two orchids didn't grow very well, which is why I wasn't hooked on so far. I thought I had done everything I could do (air around the roots, special "soil" for orchids etc.)
I... have no idea what kind they are. One was from the normal home-improvement store, that has a gardening section too, the other a present. Both looked kind of similar and seemed to be the pretty normal you-can-buy-me-in-every-store type ^^;;;
