I was so happy when we got cordless phones! Though sound did travel pretty well so if we wanted a "private" conversation (who didn't pick up another phone to listen in) we had to go down to the basement (half finished, so not entirely unbearable).
For the record I tried to get a phone in my room, but the 4 prong jack (old school) adapter didn't work (I guess the line was cut at some point). My parent's room had a jack, so at night (when I was in college) I'd drag the line into my room to use the dial up internet.
Even now Marcus and I may or may not stay in the room with one another when we get a call. Neither of us take offense if the other takes their call into the other room though.
When we got into high school we bought an extra long cord for the phone so we could take calls into our bedrooms though.
