I really like The Truman Show. It was also the first time I saw Jim Carrey playing a serious dramatic role. God, he made me cry on a more regular basis after that. He is an astounding actor after all, not just for the comedy; he's one of those that can do 'fragile' so really well, and that is what always gets me.
The show (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0426654/ ) is a weird and fabulous bit of... hmm... it's hard to say, it's really something that makes you think Oh fuck it all, life's a sickness, and the most ridiculous things are going to happen to you for better or worse, so yeah, just bring it on, whatever... It's only 7 episodes and as far as I can tell from looking at it from here... they're all on youtube...
