I can hardly complain, after all I demanded for Spain to finally deliver. So at least we didn't lose to one of the total disappointments of the tournament, or due to some wrong decision by a referee, but because we were bad in comparison to our previous games, and because Spain was much better and not simply lucky.

I like that line from the comedian, very self-deprecating about national identity... although I want to add that as an Englishman, the Second World War does not figure in my thoughts of present-day Germany.

That's a good thing to hear :)

I've seen a couple of England-reports lately (due to the WC of course, made to gauge other peoples overal and more personal impression) - the reporter was speaking to people from the street, in pubs and such - and they were not exactly unlifting in that respect.

Unfortunately you will still find a lot of people here who don't share my attitude... The media are very irresponsible here and whip such prejudice up. It's one of the things that make me ashamed to be English, sometimes.
