a while back, my friend kelly was telling me about her psych rotation for med school, and how apparently psychologists can quantify people in four different ways. 1) neurologically, 2) behaviorally, 3) health concerns (physically), 4) IQ. it's not so much a matter of IF you're crazy, but how much, and in what ways. it seems that what really matters ( Read more... )

I know exactly what you mean. I get neurotic when I don't have my cell phone, after not having one for years and then as a high schooler constantly forgetting to charge or put minutes on my disposable phone. I've been stranded enough times that upon noticing that I've forgotten my cell phone, my brain immediately goes into a cycle of "What if my mother calls me? She'll be angry if I don't pick up. What if something happens and I need help? What if I get lost? What if a friend gets lost and needs me? AND OH MY GOD, WHAT TIME IS IT?" It doesn't stop until I get home and retrieve my phone. I mean, I don't drop everything to go get it, but I'm low-level nervous all day until it's back in my possession ( ... )

I get neurotic when other people don't have their cell phone, too.

josh went to a study session the other night, but didn't take his cell phone. I got home from work to find his bag and his wallet here, but his bike missing. I thought he'd just gone out for a quick ride, but when it turned into hours (and it being dark out), I started freaking out that he'd gotten hurt or something. called his cell, only to find it ringing in the apartment, under a pile of mail. had I remembered that he was going to a study session, I would have been fine, I'm sure. but the combination of everything (me trying to call him a few times before I left work; his stuff being at home, but not him; his cell phone at home; having not eaten, because I didn't know when he was going to be back) made me go nuts.

ah, what fun.
