Congratulations, HYDE-sama, for making into the Top 100 Ranking of Most Influential People in Japan, on the 94th place. Very impressive, considering the list consisted of people from all industries, such as politics, sports and acting etc. He was one of the 2 musicians that made into the list, the other being the lead vocalist of Bump of Chicken. YAY congrats Hyde~!!

but im surprised some people didnt get a mention (gackt? Yoshiki?) and some did...AKB48 O.o
then there is Arashi...then them all named individually~ but I guess thats what you get with an internet survey....still very interesting though :D

This is interesting. I had to laugh when I saw that Arashi as a group plus ALL the actual individual members ranked as more influential than former Prime Minister Abe. I am upset that Kimura Takuya outranked Miyazaki Hayao though. But Arashi is WAY higher than SMAP on the ranking so there!! haha. I think it's all that extra humiliation they suffer on their weekly TV programs that has boosted them up on the rankings.

If I may take a stab at the whole "singer" vs. "musician" categorization... hyde might be in his own category of "musician" because he also plays the guitar (and whatever else strikes his fancy...lol). At first I thought it might have been because he composes, but I believe Hamasaki Ayumi also composes (or at least writes some of her own lyrics) and she was not categorized as a musician. I am inclined to think this ability to play another instrument is what distinguishes him from Koda Kumi.

Very informative post. Speaks volumes of Japan today...

Weird ranking is weird. If it's about infuential people, then wouldn't Tetsuya deserve a higher rank than Hyde? Not to mention some really questionable people in it and other obvious people not on it :/ Of course, if it was the public that voted, they probably voted more on popularity than actual "influence"

I don't see how tetsuya can be considered more influential than hyde...hyde is more well-known you know

Being well known is one thing, but I understand "influence" as what a person can do in a much wider range than just being recognized on the street. Hyde might be the face of the band and I don't deny that he's quite influential, but it's Tetsuya that is doing more behind the scenes, like organizing stuff and deciding things. That's true even beyond only Laruku and his solo business now.

I guess it depends on one's definition of "influence" though. If one understands it as who the public sees more and takes example from, then this ranking is probably right. It's just not the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word influence.

you know it makes me so mad when some L'arc fans like you go all '' oh tetsuya does everything, nobody appreciates him, hyde is so over-rated D;'' and stuff like that.

hyde indeed is in this poll because he's a very influential Person, who has influenced many other artists, musicians and etc.
Not only because he's the vocalist of laruku (which btw isn't the only band he's in. -_-)
No offense man.
