I guess I am really happy I stopped watching TV and use the Internet for most of my amusement!

"One of the most intriguing things about the psychology of persuasion is how many people say that persuasion attempts have little or no effect on them. Other people, oh sure, adverts, work on them. But not you and I, we're too clever for that.

I don't get TV. I only watched season 1 so far. I love True Blood tho. Rare TV shows actually engage me. Don;t spoil the dream thing, I'll get there in the next few weeks lol. BUT, yeah I think TV is for suckers in many ways. Pay for the privilege of being brainwashed. Pay for ads for things you'll never use or care about. Pay for the boredom, the cheap (no expensive, but still lame) thrills of being exposed to violence, soft core porn, youth fetishism, deep misconstructions of economics, news that is not new at all, bla bla bla.

However internet use should be regarded with skepticism too. Wikipedia is being altered by government agencies to suit their agenda. Google mediates and filters everything in their searches (consequently affecting the searches in all other engines) based on corporate influence and state controls in every country. The internet is becoming a propaganda space as well. But still... I'd rather spend my time connecting with people online than being sucked into a tube.

I can't tell you how restless I became whenever I turned on the boob-tube. Even taping shows was a real problem, and I refuse to pay the money for all of the devices and gadgets for recording.

I think I may have "more of a chance" controlling a little of what I see on the Internet than I do on TV! But your point is taken. Our world is about influence and control.
