Some time ago HarperCollins' UK division created a combination writing workshop/online slush pile called Authonomy. I assume the name was an attempt to marry the concepts of authors and autonomy. Anyway, HC has just announced the first three publishing contracts for folks who had posted on Authonomy. One author had self-published his serial

AbsoluteWrite posters seem skeptical. I am, too. One of the authors getting a contract was not a beginner, already had an agent, and dropped their book prior to publishing disclosure. At least, that's the report from AbsoluteWrite.

I sense some sour grapes, but I just congratulate the writers and wish them the best. I should be so lucky.

Hmmm. I thought all three books were on the site? Although one woman did remove the original version and repost a new version. Maybe that's what they're referring to?
