since some are moving to Dreamwidth

I am still not really 100% clear why, but it seems that some people are moving from LJ to Dreamwidth. I remember that happening a long time ago, too, and back then I went as far as setting up an account there and importing such journal entries as I had. But then never did anything with it again (last time I imported stuff was 2010). I have just ( Read more... )

The big Dreamwidth breakaway happened when LJ was sold to a Russian company; now, the LJ servers are being physically moved to Russia (which has very different laws about protection/sharing of information), and so a number of people who hadn't left before are leaving now.

I'm not.

I'm sticking with LJ unless it goes poof. But I have a dreamwidth account and am linking up with those from LJ who have shifted over there, just in case I have to switch. I figured it'd be easier to do that than to try to find everyone 'after the big disappearance because of the Russians'.

Yah, that is pretty much why I am making the transition. And, since it was SO easy to figure out how to crosspost from there to here, I am now doing my posting from there, though this is still the default place to read first, and will likely be till and unless the last of my friends here quit posting.

I don't seem to have either of theirs--or yours!! We will be in Seattle next month, and wanted to visit them. Could you please send me a contact e-mail for them? Many Thanks!
Reading through your journal--especially the embroidery part--we were reminded of your time in Juneau, when we saw the clothing you had made for yourself. It was most impressive! Glad to know you have found a home in Sweden. Your cousin Julie (our daughter) spent a year there as an exchange student in high school...I think she still remembers some of the language...and certainly remembers the country!

Does this mean you will no longer do livejournal? And I have to figure out some new fangled thing in order to follow you? Oh no! What a way to end the year.

I get the impression that some people are afraid that LJ may cease to work for people in the states. If that happens, then, yes, you would need to learn the Dreamwidth option. It is possible to "cross-post" from one to the other (automatically have what is written on one show up on the other, but I haven't learned how to do that yet. In the short term I will try to use both, since I now have friends in both locations.

It was quite easy to set up cross-posting from DW to LJ. I even had it posting a special footer for a while, basically linking each LJ copy to the DW original and inviting people to go there to comment. You can see my entire history on both platforms. If the Russians stuff it up, I'll still have DW.
