This evening, after putting lord_kjar on a train to Göteborg, I sat down to play with the new loom and see if I would have any better luck weaving the northern lights than I had yesterday, when I determined several approaches I didn't like

I think what you have does look like the northern lights. They are never consistent, but always brilliantly displayed with random patterns.

If you like how it looks, then why not just do more of it, with new yarn, in the same width. Perhaps applied on a slightly wider backing strip of fabric in a coordinating solid color or shot weave (warp one color weft a different color) if you want the trim to be wider...
