While I don't have the physiological hearing issue, I too find it impossible to learn languages purely from audio presentation. If I learn the vocabulary visually first, then I have a hope of being able to track it aurally. But with audio immersion, I can't always even work out what sounds I'm hearing, much less how to sequence the words.
Me too (can't learn language just from audio). It drives me crazy to learn a word if I don't also know how it's written; I don't feel sure I've got it right.
Thanks for sharing this, perhaps it isn't just the hearing that is at fault, but I will persist in blaming the baggage which has come with it for the intensity of my reaction on the day. I remember complaining when I was young that if I took off my glasses I couldn't hear a thing. Fortunately, I haven't needed classes in many years.
Immersion blenders are FABULOUS. Another thing we like to use ours for is to make quick fruit sorbet by just blenderizing semi-frozen fruit... no additives required.
Interesting about the notes vs. think it through approach. I can understand feeling weird about that comment, at the same time that I'm intrigued that that was his approach. I wonder if it's partly a learning style difference. Sometimes people get weirded out when I take notes of something they're saying... but writing it down is essential to how I internalize information, more so even than reviewing what I wrote.
I hadn't thought of letting the fruit thaw a little. I've put frozen fruit into a blender with a dash of juice or milk to make yummy things ranging in texture from sorbet to milk-shake, depending upon how much liquid was added. I'll have to buy some frozen berries and experiment with how well it works without adding liquids
