they should. if i'm not considered independent after being out of home and supporting myself for almost three years, their idea of independence is fucked. they'll prolly only give me money until the end of june, when this semester is over and i'm hopefully done with school, but that's better than being broke every fortnight.

my sis has just started applying for yoof allowance. it's all online now so there's a whole lot less paperwork, and lots more questions to fill out! joy. i think it's meant to be easier, but i haven't looked yet. just sign up for an account and you can start :D i think you only need to go into centrelink once to give them some hard copy of documents.

you are listening to the used? did you get tickets to see their show? i was thinking and wondering and trying to find someone to go with and now they are all sold out :(

my sister went in to centrelink today to try to get youth allowance. she's not home yet but i can imagine they'll tell her to go away and come back with more of the right documents. centrelink suck a lot. some branches are a bit more lenient than others tho. i like the maroubra one, which is shit to get too, but the hornsby which is so nice and close sux arse.

would you be close to having earned enough in 18 months? if you are near to that, you could skip uni for a week and work heaps and heaps and then claim? it's always good over easter with all the extra bonus payments.

The advantage of getting Youth Allowance would be that the rent assistance really helps out a lot.

it is, but it really makes things difficult if i can get the plan to work. the plan would see me fleeing the country in late september or early october, which'd mean i could only hold a six month lease. i don't think i can really be bothered picking up, paying all the fees for moving like truck rental and all, finding another place and trying to make everything work for six months. but then again, that's all dependent on everything working out for me...but still! big pain in the bum for six months! *s*

Ah yes, good point. Moving always cost me about a grand in total, so if you think of that in terms of a $20 increase per week, it'd take you a whole year before it became cheaper to move :/
