The first time you sold your body for money, you thought it might be okay, and in your mind, you treated it like a date. You’d been with men whom you didn’t love and it had been fun. You enjoyed sex as much as anyone, so you thought that maybe it wouldn’t be as bad as they said. To convince yourself, you pulled on lacy panties and a matching bra, bartered for some scented lotion with one of the other women, and you dabbed a tiny bit of perfume behind your ears. You thought, hey it’s the end of the worlds and you might as well use your assets to keep Paya well-fed and safe. And that first time, there was more anticipation than fear as you opened the door with a welcoming smile

Oh man, this is marvelous. I wish Black Market had given us more of this--desperate, devastated people doing desperate things.
And this: Now when you think about the men, you know it’s not the ones who hit or punch that make you feel worst. They’re one-dimensional animals and you hold them away from your true self. It’s the ones who treat you well, who pretend you are a dead girlfriend or a wife and treat you with respect, asking if you are okay all the while pretending that they’re not going to give you cash at the end. Just wonderful.

Wow, you did a really fantastic job of taking a character we only saw for such a short period of time and turning her into something complex. I love seeing the BSG world away from Galactica and what it must have been like...

Thank you! It's that core sense of self, that determination and single-mindedness that makes me like her so much. She did what she needed to do with very little options.
