1. Cute Boy #4 gave me his number. I'm...having fun talking to him. He's dorky. I think I'll stick to texting for now, though. I hate talking on the phone. Unless it's my mom

Now I'm curious as to what book series that is. Sounds interesting.
I, too, liked Falling Skies and I hope they aviod the man!pain thing. Or at least keep it to a minimum. I adore all the female characters thus far but Maggie is my favorite and I really want to see her + Karen teaming up to kick ass! I don't really see them doing a triangle with Maggie/Hal/Karen. I do see them doing one with Karen/Hal/girl who still has faith but who's name I can't recall. But of course, I see all the femslash possibilities there so I can't complain too much :)
The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. She's a shapeshifting mechanic who was raised by werewolves.
The main problem that I have with it is the problem I have with virtually all werewolf fiction, in that every author I have ever read sets up werewolf packs as very patriarchal (supposedly based on real wolves though I admit to knowing nothing about the behavior of wolves).
This series at least has its characters acknowledge that problem, often. And the latest book had some women challenging certain established rules and being allowed to do so. And there's a gay werewolf, who is not only allowed into the pack but is the Alpha's third, which is just totally unheard of.
So yeah, I think the author is trying to subvert certain common UF tropes while still operating within them, and is sometimes successful and sometimes not. But they're a decent read.
Yes I really like the Mercy Thompson series a lot. It has it's problems, but Mercy is a competent female and while I hate that she was raped, I think it's been dealt with pretty well.
I am glad Briggs has grown as a writer though- she's mostly stepped away from the Lonely Female problem she had in the past. She's still not perfect, but at least Mercy interacts on a friendly level with Adam's daughter. Her earlier books, the fantasy ones especially are um... annoying if you're looking for female friendships. Fun books, but annoying.
