ITA regarding TVD and Damon. I only recently got into the series and am catching up on it. But I don't think I can forgive what he did to Alexa. That was intolerably cruel as far as I'm concerned. I mean, he killed his brother's oldest friend to cover up his own murders? And people find this guy dreamy? Not I.
I can see that he could have a redemption arc that could be satisfying. But he has a long way to go. And I don't see how Elena could ever be with him, though there are apparently many who disagree with that opinion LOL.
I didn't hate the VD episode as much as you did but I agree with you on the Damon thing. I found an interesting post on tumblr about this topic (not about the recent episode but more about the love triangle and the fandom in general): http://tvdfandomfail.tumblr.com/post/2065984700/marry-me
Even though I didn't hate this week's episode of TVD, ITA completely when it comes to Damon. I've always thought Damon was an interesting character and there are many times when he's entertained me but I've never been able to actually LIKE the guy because 90% of what he does pisses me off. And this week took it to a whole 'nother level. How does it make sense to PHYSICALLY THREATEN the woman you claim to love?! Personally, if someone did that to me, 'love' is the last thing I'd be feeling for them.
And that's not even taking into account the fact that Damon ran off without telling anyone what was going down. Ass.
It's unfortunate but I think the show's trying to have it both ways with Damon -- they throw in fanservice bits to bait the D/E shippers, but then they make Damon do all these horrible things to try to slow it down. I remember Julie said in some interview that they basically did the Damon killing Jeremy thing to put the brakes on it (both in-show and in-fandom, and we can see how well it worked in fandom!). And as someone who basically could've written that article that malicat linked to, the idea that the show is just INEVITABLY heading toward D/E is ... off-putting at best, especially the more they make all three of them into people who would let that happen. Those aren't the people I liked at the beginning. So, I don't know. Even though it hasn't happened and I know that - it's started to dampen my enjoyment of the show. :(
