So I have a question for the people on my flist who RP.
How do you get into it?
I'm kind of curious about the whole thing, and it kind of sounds like a fun thing for me to at least try (random PPC chats from ages and ages ago don't count), but I'm not sure where to begin. Suggestions?

Generally it depends on what you're interested in. There are fandom based RPs, which are just specific to a certain fandom, like Harry Potter or Transformers. There you play a character from the fandom and they don't usually allow original characters (though not always). Then there are the pan-fandom games which allow characters from all different universes to mix in a certain location.
Pan fandom games seem to come in two flavors: The structured games which take place in a certain location and the unstructured games which have a gimmick, like you have to post something using only six words. Then other characters will respond to it.
I've been playing at mixed_muses a lot recently. It's a place where you can try out different characters and get the hang of the 'voices'.

RP in my game!' and lo I was drafted into LJ games properly. And now, about two, three or four years later, I'm helping run a rather large, multifandom one ( ... )
