McCoy wishes he could see space the way Jim does; as a vast expanse of hope where something or someone is always waiting on the next planet.
Then there’s Spock, who sees only the facts and statistics and probabilities, and yet McCoy knows there’s a certain philosophical beauty there as well.
For himself, it’s a just a dangerous, sometimes dirty place, and he’s only there because what he left behind is worse. His one solace is the men and woman he serves with. He’d die saving them and suspects he probably will.
Maybe there’s some beauty to it after all.
