Dog-spotting and other things....

Jun 20, 2009 18:02

I got out and did an hour and a half around Dolores Park. I spotted two Chinese Crested dogs, which are kind of ugly. Those hairless spotted things. But then later on when we went to brunch, I saw a Pharaoh Hound, which was absolutely beautiful. I'm pretty sure it's the first one I've ever seen in the flesh ( Read more... )

Pharaoh hounds are so gorgeous! I wish I had something more topical to comment with, but alas, it's all about the cute dogs with me lol.

Puppeeeeeee love is always an appropriate topic. I actually had my camera, but I wasn't sure the owner would appreciate me taking a picture as he also had his daughter with him.

This was a truly beautiful dog, and very friendly.

I WANT A PUPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

We went out this morning shopping, and I was very put out that MSNBC was in DocBlock mode. I switched to CNN, and it made an acceptable subsitute.

Of course, I also went to the HuffPost Iran Update stream, and learned pretty much everything that they said except for the dissection of the cultural meanings behind messages posted on Mousavi's Facebook page.

Hubby's completely immersed in the twitter stuff, but I like having some context from the on-air reporters and of course Christiane Amanpour rocks. But yeah, I'm a bit put out with my MSNBC. Of course, I'm generally pissed about them devoting their weekends to "Lock-Up" "To Catch A Predator" and "Sexual Slavery" etc. anyway.

Generally speaking, if a news organization (tv, print, internet, whatever) is regularly "dark" at certain times, it pretty much takes something on the level of 9/11 or Katrina to change that. There's just literally no one to staff it. And of course, the reason so many news orgs do "go dark" at certain times is for cost reasons to begin with, so there's even less incentive to round up the troops.

I get that, but especially since MSNBC is supposed to be the 24 hour news channel of NBC, and has the NBC resources at its disposal, I think it would have behooved them to put a few people into the studio. Meanwhile, NBC was showing golf, when I checked. Since it was likely that FOX was using at least part of their airtime to find ways to use the coverage to attack the President, it would also have been nice to have the opposite voice on the air as well.

I loved John Hodgman so much that I feel better about PC computers, now. (Have to remember that he was chosen to be PC by Mac people!)

Someone does need to make sure Obama knows not to laugh at his own jokes.

It's a nervous tic. He did it at the Al Smith dinner and at the White House Correspondents dinner. I think he panics a little bit when he doesn't get an immediately laugh.

Hodgman was really nice, and I'm sure the people who booked him breathed a big sigh of relief after what happened with Wanda Sykes. (Who I loved, but there were those few OTT moments.)

It is a Schipperke and when they're puppies, they look like bear cubs. But when they're grown, they look like foxes in the face and they're small enough that people think they're puppies, but don't tell them that. They still think they're big dogs. I know Bandit always thought he was.
