Idiots at who_secrets are reduced to claiming "Jack doesn't want Gwen" as a catch-all refutement to arguments against J/I being anything more than what we all know it is
( Read more... )
You have NO idea just how juvenile these people can be when the idea of their twu-wuv shmoopy-oopy curtain-buying ship is attacked on the grounds of Jack being Jack.
Yeah, that's why I stay the hell out of 'ship wars. I mean, I personally think Wincest is absurd (and now canon bears me out, neiner-neiner-neiner!) and more than a little squicky, but hey, whatever floats their boats. *eyeroll*
Urgh. Sometimes I wonder what drives these people. But then I remember what it was like to see insecure little children who want to score cheap points with the popular girls at the expense of someone they consider to be an ousider. Jeez, it's like being back in school.
Which reminds me, I bought Heathers last weekend and since today I have a sick day I think I'm gonna watch it...
Just because LJ is slightly more grown-up than Myspace doesn't mean it's NOT high school.
I don't know if Heathers is necessarily the best fodder for a sick day...or maybe it is. I honestly love fandom and LJ, but there is always going to be a cliquish aspect to any subculture and I've experience vast amounts of Heather-ism in both House MD and Torchwood fandom. One of the reasons I love LoM and State of Play fandom is that so far, I haven't seen any. (I'm not counting the "I Know How To Write Gene and You Don't" lady. That was just wacked out trollishness at its finest.)
Wait, what? Someone actually claimed they are the arbiter of all Gene knowledge? someone actually from the LoM fandom? That's bizzare, and quite frankly, just plain rude.
I didn't get round to Heathers yet, but I may still. Watched Zoolander this morning and Mr G, in spite of my reservations about leaving the house whilst on sick leave, smuggled me to the movies this afternoon to watch The Damned United.
Oh, this was ages ago, April 2008, but I think it was pretty much the only time LoM made fandom wank. I don't think anyone would describe her as being "In the fandom" and for real fun, you can click on her LJ for her "Fine, I'll take my marbles and go home" attitude toward the whole thing.
For your amusement, especially the condescending attitude she takes towards anyone who disagrees with her.
I could put my head down and not call them on their bullshit, but that's just not who I am, anymore than I'm going to shut up about the crap that House is becoming or my contention that the H/W fluffers are living a lie.
It's not who I am and not why I came here.
To quote a wise man "Fuck em all and feed em fish."
What the hell is that secret even supposed to mean?
And of course Jack wants Gwen. Jack wants everybody. Besides that, whether or not he wants Gwen is completely irrelevant to whether or not he loves Ianto (or anyone else). Gah.
God only knows what it was supposed to mean. EEJITS.
What they can't stand is that Jack wants Gwen while still getting hand-jobs from Ianto, which means Ianto is still just a part-time and temporary shag until Jack can get something he wants and hasn't had yet.
an excellent point. a good friend of mine said to me, "House wouldn't want you but captain Jack would," to which my response was "that's not a compliment, Jack will do ANYBODY"
The quote from Day One is "He'll shag anything if it's gorgeous enough." We don't know exactly what his parameters are for gorgeous. He's been seen flirting with at least one blue alien with a lot of tentacles, but seems to draw the line at advanced age.
By most rational metrics, GDL wouldn't appear to be close, but there's always willing suspension of disbelief. With Gwen, there's no doubt. Jack has been lusting for her from nearly the moment they met and he's been seen palpably longing from her from across a room, while she was kissing her fiancee.
LOL, you're stupid. Nobody at who_secrets was saying that Jack doesn't want Gwen or anything. And a lot of people who think you are pathetic don't even ship Jack/Ianto, so stop this stupid 'JANTO SHIPPERS OPPRESS ME!!!' shit.
Come on, show your face. I'm sure it's not quite as ugly as your personality.
And if you look at the comment thread, you'll see that someone very clearly said "Jack doesn't want Gwen," and went into a lengthy discussion attempting to show why not.
Whether they were being ironic or not, doesn't change the fact that Jack is getting nearly-public handjobs from Ianto and wants Gwen et al, which the hard-core J/Iers are loathe to admit because it throws a crimp in their schmoop-oopy twu-wuv dreams for their canon so-called pairing.
I'm not "oppressed," but there is not doubt that the J/I fandom has a thuggish contingent, fully capable of attacking fans and characters who stand in their way of their reality, which is why they've gotten away with their entitled domination of many of the forums for so long.
However, as I've said, their clamour in conjunction with RTD's Mary Sue longings is going to put the final nail in the coffin of a great character.
Until proven otherwise, anyone who responds anonymously in someone's personal journal and starts the comment "LOL" is, to all appearances, very vapid.
I don't remember karaokegal ever claiming that J/I shippers are oppressing her or anyone else, just that some people digging trenches for a ship war are prepared to fling some very unpleasant personal comments around. Like showing up at someone's journal and calling them stupid, f'rinstance...

RIP Captain Jack.
See ya at the wake.

And really, why people are ship warring in the first place is completely beyond me. It's Jack!
And I really like what you say here.
Would you mind if I added you to my flist?
