I'm finally watching State of Play

Oct 11, 2008 15:58

The first scene between John Simm and David Morissey made my slash goggles light up like a pair of Elton John concert specs from 1975. If they don't end up shagging/snogging/revealing that they have shagged or snogged by the end of this, I will be shocked.

And John Simm in that goatee is yummylicious. Can't wait to see him on-screen with Philip

philip glenister, john simm, state of play

I never made it to the end of State Of Play (I intended to, but I actually left it on my hard drive at home so I won't be able to see it until xmas) but SO SLASHY, RIGHT? They have *incredible* chemistry and I am convinced there was some sort of previous relationship between them. If the end reveals that there was, I will be so pleased.

I'm on episode two now and it's like SCREAMING to me. (And there's John Simm/Philip Glenister as well.)

Bill Nighy being super snarky.
James McAvoy
Marc Warren.

Damn. This is brilliant.

I can't believe this doesn't have much fic. Not even Yuletide.
I want to start writing already.

State of Play is one of my most favorite things to watch EVER!! Cal/Stephen FTW! If you are interested, when you get through watching, mikes_grrl has an awesome, not too busy comm set up and both me and severinne have some Cal/Stephen fic over there : ) To fill all your slashy needs! Have fun watching, let me know what you think when you are through!

A link would be nice, eh?

I'm through the first two eps. I also like the het stuff, because when the wife is groping John Simms chest that's pretty darn hot too.

Will check out all the fic when I'm done with the whole show. I'm quite surprised that no one has done anything for yuletide.

YAY! Thanks for the pimping!

Truly, Cal/Stephen doesn't even NEED slash goggles. You'd have to be BLIND not to see it. Not a pairing I would write (Stephen icks me) but really, I mean come on, pluh-eze!!!!

YES! More SoP fic! We needs it!

I admit that I have the slash glasses permanently affixed, but I wasn't necessarily LOOKING for it as we watched and then that very first scene between them and I was like...WHOAH...either they've done it or they want to do it. As of the end of the 2nd ep, I'm convinced that Cal is all about Stephen, even when he's with Anne. I mean the jealousy is practically oozing out of ever pore.

If you have access to actual DVDs, I'd recommend giving it another go.

I love Love LOVE State of Play. Aside from the fact that it is top British drama at its twisty-turny best, Cal McCaffery is probably my favourite John Simm character ever, it's slashy as all hell, and Cal/Anne are aaaaaall kinds of hot. That chest groping/Simm neck!porn shot episode 2 set off some kind of happy dance in my pants.

Candesgirl is right about the State of Play community. I've seen some really excellent slash, het and slash/het crossover stuff there.

Every time another awesome actor (James McAvoy, Marc Warren) shows up I start squeeeing all over again.

I'm fascinating by John Simm's ability to be so sexy in such different roles (The Master, Sam Tyler, Cal McCaffrey) even though he's not the matinee idol good-looker, a la Barrowman

Hopefully I'll finish the whole series today, so I can start reading the fic. I still can't believe it hasn't been a Yuletide entry.

I don't know what a Yuletide entry is...

Did you enjoy the last episode? I just read an excellent short fic by Mike's Grrl in the SOP Comm that's made me think about things in a slightly different way so I may have to go back and rewatch the whole thing again. Oh, the hardship...

I have a theory that John Simm is sexy in so many different roles due to the fact that he is actually pure, liquid filth made flesh. A bit like the cop in Terminator 2, only made from the glistening, pearlescent essence of pure sex appeal instead of some futuristic type of molten metal. JB does handsome, but I don't necessarily find handsome all that sexy on its own. JS, on the other hand, just exudes this quality that I can't quite put my finger on. I don't know how he does it!

yuletide is a yearly challenge for people to write fics for "smaller fandoms". If you've never done it, I HIGHLY recommend. Just take a look at the website and you will find fics in fandoms (books, movies, tv shows, comics etc) that you could never have imagined. So that's why I'm really stunned that State of Play hasn't been done.

That's a very interesting theory about JS. With JB (for me) there's just this instant gasp almost every time I look at him. A certain disbelief that one man can be that handsome. With JS, I really do find it comes through more in the actual portrayal of the individual characters, because honestly, if I only see a picture of him, I wouldn't necessarily get the same feeling.

It's a pity there isn't more Jack/Master fic, and that it inevitably tends to be torture fic. (Not that I don't like a bit of that now and again.) Because it would be nice to see a more playful side in their interactions.

Maybe I'll have to do a crossover to get Jack/Sam or Jack/Cal.

I ♥ James McAvoy's character in State of Play. I think that I way paying too much attention to his relationship with his dad to really be sucked in by the slash, but I do remember seeing that.

I still can't quite get that John Simm is the Master and Sam Tyler and Cal.

I also forget that it's a six part show, because it has always showed on Australian TV is three parts.

And if I hadn't gotten infected with Barrowmania, I wouldn't have
to Simm as the Master and from there to LOM and now this, and a slew of othter Simm/Glenister/Tennant related stuff.

I'm warming up to James McAvoy a lot.

We're watching the last episode right now, and I'm not completely sure if there's going to be another BIG TWIST.
