The Party's Over...now it's time for the after-party party!!!

Nov 03, 2006 12:55

Hey gang, thanks for either coming back, sticking around, or just refusing to leave because you were having such a good time or managed to get stuck to the couch. I figure those of you who are still here or felt like dropping back could help me clean up a little, talk about the party, and nurse our hangovers together. I've got Bloody Marys, Virgin ( Read more... )

Oh, thank you so much, hon! As I mentioned before, I'm so honored that you enjoyed the MST/flamewar, but it must be said that the BCCs really belong to Skyblue. All I did was make fun of her story - she's the one who put her BCCs out there and let herself act like an idiot 13 year old Mary-Sue writer (and yet somehow, she came off as a complete genious anyhow. Go figure, huh?) Anyway, I had a complete blast and I'm really glad that you came up with this idea.

A Mardi Gras Karaoke party? Hon, I never write songfics, but I am there!

[still browsing fics as I clean up]

Much as I like to get people to sing, I would never force a song fic on anyone. The song prompt can be used as the writer sees fit. The writers who used them ran the gamut from quoting to barely mentioning. I just live with these song lyrics running around in my head and I like to share the joy. If you were going to get a song prompt would you want an anonymous snippet or a full lyric with composer and artist info?

You both deserve your BCC award. Keep it on the piano in the parlour and show off to your friends.

As a prompt? I could go with either, I think. A snippet would be easier to wined a story around, but a full on lyric might give me more inspiration.

*Is envisioning a brass trophy of testicles sitting on the piano downstars* Heehee! Thank you!

*sheepishly comes forward from dark corner where she has been snogging ennui*

Woo-hoo! BCC award! YAY!!! Thank you, my dear. And of course, tremendous thanks to my partner in crime, without whom this would not have been possible. *grabs ennui, starts snogging her again*

Errrr, sorry, got distracted there for a moment. Anyway, this was a fabulous party, I'm still checking out all the gorgeous costumes, and definitely sign me up for next year!

My personal vote would be to keep it small (word of mouth rather than pimping on comms) and in your LJ rather than a comm. Just feels more intimate this way - it really is a party rather than a Fic Challenge. Plus, as you mentioned, it's a lot of fics to read already, so more might feel overwhelming. Although I have a feeling it'll be bigger next year anyway, as word of mouth spreads. I'd agree with a bigger posting window, though.

As for costume creation process, my "research" consisted of reading ennui's House MSTs (such a chore!); the actual writing was done in about two hours ( ... )

Thanks for coming by to help with clean-up. I'm definitely leaning toward keeping it intimate, but having a bigger posting window.

Oh, man, this party was SO much fun! I'm still trying to catch up on all of the costumes, though. Hopefully I can find time to enjoy them this weekend. Which leads me to my two cents on next year: I'm all for keeping it within the comment thread, and as a word of mouth kind of thing. I think it might lose some of its party atmosphere in a comm. Also, I agree with the longer posting window. Of course, I would like to be there next year whatever you decide. ;)

And woo!! I got nominated for something! Yay! I have to admit that the crack really helped me to get through the smut. It was really hard! I don't know how people do it. I really want to get better at it though, and now that I've tested the water and I didn't drown, I think I might keep trying. My new goal: Smut without crack! Hee. Anyway, thanks for pushing us to try something new ( ... )

Yay for best-party award. I'd like to thank all the little people...I'd like to do my speech in sign (but I don't know ASL) I'd like to thank my publicist.

Please feel free to come back with nominations when you're done reading, now that LJ has decided to work again.

And we're all rooting for you to get clean of crack and do some sober smut!

Let's see ... My process ...

Well, it started out as a cycling fic that was gonna have something to do with Jens Voigt, Booby Julich, and Michael Barry because I am ALWAYS writing Jandy or Jance. And it wasn't enough of a costume, so I was going to write in a different genre than usual. And it totally didn't work. Not costumey enough.

So I let it sit. Then, one night, at one in the morning, I was struck with the urge to write something from Rent. And, seeing as I only ever write Roger/Mark or Roger/Gordon, I knew it had to be het. And then I realized how much I dislike Mark/Mimi, so I did that. And it just worked.

The hardest part, I think, was writing a different pairing. I haven't really thought about how they work together, nor do I really want to, so it was a bit of a challenge. Also ... I find I tend to be really reluctant to write het. I had to force myself to write it, even though it was short. But, that's why it was a costume.

Phew. X3

I really appreciate you doing something that was difficult in the name of making it a true costume. Thanks so much for coming. You rock!

I had a blast. Can we do this again next year? Pleasepleaseplease?

I'm voting for the word-of-mouth and the hosting at an lj instead of a comm, as it's more of a party instead of a Halloween challenge. (Still, if we want to do flyers, why not?)

I was not overwhelmed with the fic, as I didn't read it all. ^_^;; (Maybe when the masterlist's completed...)

My costume? It all came from skyblue_reverie's initial costume ideas, and Jeeves/Agatha was too much of a pairing not to write. I tacked it up on my mental to-do list, waited until the night of Halloween, and wrote it all in one go. (I'm horrible at getting these things done in advance.) As a costume, well, it wasn't much of one. It wasn't an odd style, odd pairing, or even an odd situation for me. ('cept for the het, but eh.) I think it worked as a scary costume more than a 'guess-who-I-am' costume ( ... )

Hang on to the drug bottles. I just want to figure out how much I'll need for next year. Your costume was wonderful and it was great to have you at the party. I'll mark you down for next year. (Kanine hora.)

Well, I dunno about everyone else, but I handed out about four to five bottles of Vicodin. No booze for me, though. I did indulge in the crack, but I think I evaded the heaviest of the drug and alcohol usage.

Thanks! (Kanine..what?)

Remember in "Histories" when House and Wilson are talking about Foremans parents being married for however many years? Wilson says "Mazel Tov" and House responds (although it's hard to hear it) Kanine Hora. It's yiddish phrase that's used to fend off the evil eye.
