Heavenly Creatures is one of my favorite movies and I knew that about Anne Perry. I've only ever read one book she wrote (not the same one you read) and this was after I'd found that out about her, in fact it was what made me curious enough about her to read her book in the first place. Unfortunately I didn't find it interesting and I usually love murder mysteries.
