I know what you're thinking...why am I putting these two together, aside from a certain desperation to get this project done with? They are both "iconic" shows from the late 70's/early 80's essentially built on the personal charisma of one actor/character, but in other ways soooooo different ( Read more... )

Rockford and Kojak! OMG! I watched both of them. And yes, I remember being disappointed when it turned out Mariette Hartley and James Garner weren't involved.

Of the two leads, I vastly preferred James Garner. Not in a crush way, but I enjoyed his laconic style and humor. Telly Savalas seemed a little too self-important to me. Do you remember when he put out a vanity album??

I've actually got a Karaoke disc with one of his songs. I think it might have been a hit in the UK. I think that quote about Gretchen Corbett was "a cross between Lauren Bacall and Bambi."

I'm going to finish this thing...

OK, apparently 70s TV cop shows were keen on giving Black guys really strange names. "Gandalf"? Really?

I loved both of these. I actually didn't remember Kevin from Kojak, weirdly enough (and I believe Nicollette Sheridan's mother was married to Telly Savalas as well for another KL connection). I remember Rockford more, because it used to be re-run all the time, and I've always liked James Garner as an actor.

Kevin Dobson also did a one-shot Mike Hammer TV movie, that I thought was vastly superior to the Stacy Keach version. If nothing else, Mike Hammer should not have a mustache. Thanks for a Knot's Landing reminder. Believe it or not, I'm already working on my potential Yuletide nominations and I'm considering going for my "dream" KL and Dynasty fics again.

I would never have seen that but I really only knew the Stacy Keach version, which I remember enjoying. Apparently they weren't married but were together many years and Nicolette and he remained close, so it might as well have been.

I believe it. I am always thinking on them. Why not? There's no reason you honestly couldn't at least try.

Speaking of Dynasty, I'm not sure how I feel about the reboot (which I'm not watching to be fair) but I'm somehow infuriated that they genderbent Sammy Jo. That just seems so very wrong to me. I can't decide if it's because I was really fond of Sammy Jo as played by Heather, or because they could've used Ted or Luke just as easily and done something with those characters.

That said, some of the casting for the reboot seems really interesting but I'm not sure I will watch it if I get the opportunity.

Speaking of Heather, she's having a bad time lately.
