I watched the Xmas special, although I don't watch Who in general. I got that he was moping over someone, and that's about it. I did like the woman who they seem to have lined up for the job, though. And the potato man.

I liked Joan's attitude re the hookers - she's just like, okay, whatever, you - which I liked. And yeah, Holmes is much more like a House clone than resembling BBC!Holmes, imo.

Strax was great, although technically the Sontarans aren't generally idiots. They do have a bit of tunnel vision though. They're bred to be warriors and that's pretty much all they know.

Joan's hooker snark was the perfect dead-pan, but that whole set-up (as with the dominiatrix in the opening ep) was very House-y, although without the pathos angle. House's whore fetish seemed to have a lot to do with his self-loathing, and whatever issues JLM's Sherlock has, I don't THINK it's that.

This is the first time I could post at LJ in days due to them being attacked. *fingers crossed that it holds* EVERY TIME I could get to this page it refused to let me post!

Anyway. I tried to watch Arrow and decided...no. Just no. Despite others telling me to hang in there.

Dr. Who. I always have such high hopes for the Christmas episode and almost always walk away feeling meh. I think I'm more happy about the idea that there is a new Who ep to sorta tide me over until the months roll around to see the new season.

And I meant to watch Elementary and then somehow missed it. But given your remarks on how Housian it was this time, maybe it's for the best.

I wouldn't wish Arrow on my worst enemy, unless said enemy was a Barrowmaniac of equal intensity. I do think Elementary is worth a look. Again, I can't remotely sell it in terms of the actual mystery plots, but JLM and Lucy Liu are so very charming together and I feel what they're doing with the idea of a "modern" Holmes is cobbling enough of both BBC Sherlock and House and coming up with something quite watchable.

I'm sorry to say that Matt Smith has never really worked for me as the Doctor, but I don't know if that's Moff's fault, Smith's fault or just too much residual love for Eccleston and Tennant. So it could be that while I am EMPHATICALLY over Amy Pond, the real problem is Matt Smith's Doctor as opposed to any individual companion.

The person who loves Arrow is a confirmed diehard JB fan. :D

I've been watching Elementary since day one and only missed the last one. Looking forward to tonight's ep. But not fannishly invested yet. As you say, the plots are....*shrugs*

I've adjusted to the different Doctors as they came along but I admit, in the new version of Dr. Who, my absolute favorite is Christopher Eccleston (with Rose). I have a number of favorite David Tennant eps too, notably "Blink" and "The Shakespeare Code." With Matt Smith, I realized that my favorite eps are the ones with River Song.

And speaking of River Song, I've sort of lost my interest in keeping up with NCIS, but did happen to watch two of this season's episodes the other night, including one with Alex Kingston being EXTREMELY River-ish.

Not seen Arrow, and have no intention of seeing it either which I think might be a good thing going by what you said.

Unlike you, I liked Rory, though Amy annoyed the hell out of me by the end. I still thought that the Christmas special was a much needed breath of fresh air. I adore Madam Vastra and Jenny for a start, and enjoyed her "we're married" comment (brain has come up with several ways around the restrictions of their particular time and place so it works for me) and I thought Strax was amusing without being too annoying. Ian McKellen as the voice of the snowmen was brill.

I am loving Elementary; I adore Joan, am rather fond of Sherlock and Gregson and am really pleased the series got taken on for 24 episodes. Most of my RL fannish friends here in the UK don't seem to want to give it a chance, nice to know at least some of online friends do. I can't see it eating my brain like BBC Sherlock did after the 2nd series, but it's up there with Castle on my list of American shows I don't like to miss (and there aren't that many TBH

It's a pity that so Many Sherlock fans (on both sides of the Atlantic) have gotten their hackles up about Elementary. There's so much charm in the Joan/Sherlock relationship, whether you see it as friends only or something more in the making.

I've got a definitely plot-bunny (WHEEE!) although I have a feeling it won't be to a lot of tastes. (The Doctor sends Jenny on a mission with Jack; Madame Vastra is NOT happy.)
