The plot was definitely better for this ep although I could have done without his little temper tantrum of hacking into her email to invite the Ex to come by. I agree, I thought the Ex would be a bad guy but...he wasn't. So no clue what went wrong with that but not sure I care.
As you've noticed, still a little too much House for me. (I don't think you mind, but I do. I'm not feeling the chemistry but HL is a hard act to follow. Which is why I wish they'd get away from his portrayal.)
Still, there's nothing else on that night in that time slot so I'll probably keep watching. *shrugs*
I don't mind, although I should certainly have added the hacking to the Housian side of the equation. It's sort of like I watch each episode looking out for stuff that really pings me as being House or BBC Sherlock or Downeyverse or ACD/Jeremy Brett.
I think somehow the combo of JLM's real accent AND the Housiness does work for me, as long as they keep the Joan/Sherlock stuff away from any HINT of schmoop. The minute they go beyond mutual respect to either BBC Bromance or Housian Co-dependence (which is certainly a danger with this set-up) I'm going to start calling BS.
Time slots are basically irrelevent for me as long as Tivo comes through. House may be well be the last show I ever watch in "real time" as opposed to Tivo'd or downloaded version.
Aiden is always hot, but I think aging into more of a character actor has enhanced that. (Not unlike certain actors I think we could mention.)
I wouldn't go so far as to say "fresh and new," but it's taking enough from different sources not to feel like the total rehash it could have been. And JLM definitely has a unique charm. He's not a card-board cut-out lunk of the sort that inhabits many of CBS's other flagship shows. (notreally! Hawaii 5-0, I am so looking at you.)

I am loving this show and the chemistry between LL/JLM. For some reason this show feels fresh and new, even though I know it shouldn't. :P
