I do think House MD S8 is much MUCH better than most of the crap shows currently available on Italian TV (note: Italy does *not* get highbrow BBC series).
Lie to Me was NOT a high-brow BBC series, but another Fox procedural which was on some level a House rip-off, right down to featuring a British leading man, although Tim Roth didn't bother doing an American accent.
I know hon. What I mean is, we get no Doctor Who and no Torchwood. On the other hand the US series that my kids watch when visiting family in the summer defy description. I am impressed they have any neurons left, and can only be surprised at how resilient youth is,
Gotcha! I grew up watching my fair share of swill. I was absolutely addicted to most of the sit-coms of my adolescence, and those are virtually unwatchable to me now. My grandparents didn't have a TV set in their apartment (although per my comment elsewhere, they certainly had some interesting reading material) and they were appalled at the amount of TV my sister and I watched.
I only got to Torchwood and then Who because of House fandom, and I can only thank the gods of technology that I've had access to so much good stuff via DVD's and less than legal downloads.
I liked the episode James Marsters was in. Yet another man who seems to look even better in a suit.
Was... amused that some TW watchers (we got the ep just after COE) were annoyed by him getting killed in an unrelated show, actually. And then Marc Blucas didn't get killed, which was apparently also bad (but then I have a crush on Marc and I never hated Riley either - I don't think he was good for Buffy but I didn't hate him).
I've really only watched S1 and S2 of the show, plus a few eps when we found out Mekhi was to be Rex. I think I'll keep it that way.
Are you getting Castle in your neck of the woods? It's another great one for "Hey, it's that guy!" including Marc Blucas and Anne Dudek in the same episode. It's also a show where the "good guys" are likeable and therefore everyone around them doesn't have to be demonized. Most of the "mysteries" are pretty transparent, but then again most of the BIG SECRETS aren't incredibly ugly either.
Marsters also did an excellent "three-button nasty," as my mom always called those types, in an episode of Numb3rs.
Speaking of Mekhi, have you heard that he's going to turn up on White Collar, as an FBI agent who's after Neal? Massive crossover opportunity there.
