Alice and Emily insisted that he attend Christmas dinner. A well-stuffed goose, family members, and the pieties and hypocrisy of the era. No need to mention that his Saviour traveled in a blue box. Harder to play along with the lie that Alice and Emily were nothing more than “dear friends.”
Someday things would be different.

Owen and Suzie were barely speaking to each other, but it wasn’t like Jack had anything better to do. Why not share a chicken from Sainsbury’s and a quick tumble with his two favorite agents?
