What a great use of the prompt. And yes, viewed that the way the song is really creepy.

Thanks! I think it's a generational thing. I was honestly surprised to see the on-line discussions, but once you've seen that point of view, it's hard to hear the song quite as innocently.

Oops. Some pretty dark things about Sara implied here. I also feel bad for Neal. It's something really hard to backpedal from.

The drabble definitely got away from me. I honestly hadn't meant to imply that this had actually happened. All I can say is this why another pair of eyes is really helpful, because otherwise I wouldn't have known that I needed to put up warnings.

OMG!!! I just had this exact discussion this past weekend with my cousin about how that's such a rape song and horrible when you listen to the words?!?!?! She says "what's in this drink" and he's pressuring her horribly!!

I mean I know it was written by a husband, for him and his wife to sing and it's all 'cute' but UGH O_O I can't like this song anymore...

I ran the idea by several people at the Mint yesterday and got various responses, although at least two people (gay men, for the record) were willing to admit it does come across as creepy, at least with our modern eyes and ears.

I honestly didn't mean for the fic to imply that Sara had ever been date-raped, just that she's more likely to get uptight about this stuff and that Neal really misjudges her.

It's one of those times when it's good to have a beta, because hllangel was all over me about how it actually read and that I needed to warn for triggers on it.
