I'm waiting to start this meme this weekend. I already picked out my pairings for it and I had something else for this question but OMG this pairing is the only one that has truly earned this. I'll have to change my answer now.
I haven't watched since Lindsay showed up, but I still really miss these guys. They were SO awesome back in the day.
It's painful even thinking about it now. I didn't completely hate Lindsay until they started in with the tragic back-story AND making Danny a total douche-canoe who had to somehow earn her trust back. I honestly wish I KNEW exactly what the thinking in the writer's room was that led to such wholesale crap.
I can't even think of Lindsay without raging. She's SO annoying AND she was introduced and then Danny's character was completely emasculated.
I went through a phase where I was in love with reading the CSI novels and I read the beginning of one of the CSI:NY ones. In the opening scene, Danny's on a Subway, about to be mugged, and he totally goes all out ninja on the muggers' asses. You don't know what happened to the muggers, but he goes to work the next day, clearly having been in a fight, and Mac's all disapproving. It was PERFECT!! That's the asshole, devil-may-care Danny I loved. <3
I think I was able to hold off on the Lindsay hate because of fanfic. paperclipbitch wrote some epic Lindsay fic, which managed to make her understandable and lovely and totally fucked up. Much like the way I could have avoided the Ianto-hate if the real thing had been more like her version.
I find this so fascinating because we often agree on pairings but I LOVE Danny/Lindsay. I mean I loved Danny/Mac and I'm slightly sad they killed it mostly but for some reason Danny/Lindsay really worked for me despite everything you said here, I think I just quite like the way their broken bits work together?
But it's horrible when any show you like/love messes up a pairing, however subjective "messes up" might be.
Hi! *waves* Yeah...I was ok with Lindsay/Danny at first. The whole Messer/Montana thing was kind of fun and I'm usually ok with my slash boys having a het relationship to beef up the angst quota, but I really think they botched this one all the way around. Obviously YMMV. :)
I agree with you a bazillion percent - I don't watch it anymore ever since they pretty much lopped off Danny's balls. I miss the angst-ridden, obsessive Mac and the capable Danny. And I never liked Lindsey - she just rubbed me the wrong way from the very beginning.
So frustrating! I honestly wonder if there was deliberate de-slashing, or if they just completely mis-calculated what should be done with the characters. Or maybe I'm just a lonely tin-hatter. :)
