[Primarily for Captain Harkness, but others are welcome before or after]

The evening is cold and dark, as is the wont of this time of Nexus year. Inside his private room, Lorne lounges in his fave armchair with a good book and an even better BGM, his trusted Seabreeze sitting on the table next to an ashtray. Tiny little wisps of smoke reach for the ceiling from the ashtray, where a cigarette balances delicately on the ( Read more... )

Jack - having been told by a few sources that it would be a good idea to speak to Lorne, as the school's counselor, before attempting to return to work at the Prince Institute - drops by the see him one evening. Admittedly, he's come without appointment and, though he's unaware, outside of Lorne's regular office hours. Dressed down - simple t-shirt under a warm jacket, despite the weather, and well-worn jeans - and looking a little too tired to be allowed, Jack arrives at Lorne's private room and knocks lightly at the door before the discomfort with the situation (and in general) gets the better of him and causes him to rethink this course of action.

First thing to pop into his head is 'What's Toto doing here at this hour?'. The second is decidedly less speculative and a whole lot more appreciative. Setting down his book, noting the page, he swifts and hurries his way over and opens the door, already smiling.

But seeing Jack is a surprise he wasn't in any way anticipating, and it finds him absolutely off-guard, as all good surprises do. Suddenly, his Asian themed pajama/robe combo doesn't seem such a wonderful idea anymore.

The smile changes from that of the pleasantly surprised to the rather more courteous oh, fudge what do I do now variety. "Jack." He can't call him 'captain' anymore. Not like he used to. "What are you doing here?"

At first, Jack is torn between smiling at the sight of Lorne in his pajamas and checking his wristwatch for the time. (Is it that late already? It must be.) Then, he's wondering if it was such a good idea to call in the first place, the way he summarily wiped that gorgeous smile off the green guy's face. Or, at least, caused it to change over to something he notes is a little less pleasant and more ... professional?

"Lorne," he greets in return, though he's a little unprepared for the question put to him. These days, Jack isn't a stranger to the word 'awkward,' but rather intimately familiar with it. This is one of those days. "Um ... forgetting the time and all sense of propriety, I guess. Should I - " No, that isn't right. He forces himself away from the habit of asking questions, asking for reassurance, and takes another track. "I should've called or at least come by during your office hours. I can come back later."

It's Hugh Hefner day, only without the fuzzy bunny babes. Lounging about in your something-comfortables all day is such a balm for the stressy workaholic brain. Word up.

But, back to the here and now and the nowhere near appropriate line of thought can just go bother someone else's brain for a while, because he'll need all his faculties functioning at tip top shape for this. He's so not ready for this. Sooo not with the ready.

"No worries. I'm not doing anything important." He shrugs, opening the door wider, opting to go with the not mentioning phone calls at all. Ever. "Come on in."
