Today's my birthday. Wow, am I OLD! I gotta say, I don't feel this old, but there you go, rushing right for the "raisin with eyes" phase of life ( Read more... )

Sounds like my life -- too much putting off things, besides the regular busyness of course. I hope lack of ambition isn't a sign of age, but I'm afraid it might be. I'm letting my hair go gray. It's humbling. I'm giving myself an out -- if i hate it after it's grown out, I'll go back to dyeing it, but for now I just try to ignore the mirrors, too. I like the one in my bathroom because of the light somehow, the gray doesn't show up too much, so I go by that one and ignore the others as bad lighting. heheh

I know what you mean about lighting! I prefer my bedroom mirror, as I look better with the goldy colors of the walls rather than the tiles and overhead lighting in the bathroom. My eyes aren't so great, but I regard this as a plus--if I can't see it I don't have to worry about it and there's only so many things about myself I can find the time and try and do anything about :D. I prefer looking at myself as a soft blur.

The ambition thing...I'm hoping that it's because this is a transitional phase. Well, in a lot of ways, we're like teenagers; hormones, huge life changes, lot's expected, we're really finding our way forward into this phase of life, we're not really middle aged, not really old, and, for me, I've suddenly got a social life! wow! I've never had one of those before.

If it's not that, well, I don't want to know.

Happy Birthday #3 from me! :)

Why would you avoid mirrors??? Age has its own brand of beauty too often lost in our youth-obsessed culture. Every line, wrinkle, spot and sag has a story to tell. It has LIFE written all over it! You are beautiful every moment of every day.

Wrinkles is code for vanishing hair, sagging skin, migrating boobs, eye hefty-weight sacks (not baggies, right?), and did you know that you can get baggy forearms? I did not know that! and on and on.

It's really like being a teenager, remember back when, when you went from being a very uncomplicated physical being to being a very complicated physical being? It's like that...some days, you just don't want to know. Other days are like, okay, okay, I got this, no prob.

It's like being a teenager again, if teenagers had wrinkles and liked haunting the pharmacy and had money, really, you could hardly tell us apart.

Oh, we really did! more people than I thought ended up going, too, and the dinner was amazing! I had macaroni and cheese with lobster, it was insanely good, and cake (of course), for dessert, we really had a great time.

I"ve been meaning to wish you happy birthday for HOURS now, but first food poisoning struck and then rolling power outages. Yeah. Hope YOUR day is fabulous. :P

Oh, it really was, thank you, you poor thing, I had food poisoning once, ONCE, in my whole life, and I've never been so ill, I really, really feel for you. Don't go back there, whatever you do.

Tomorrow will be better, that is the good thing about food poisoning, is that once you're completely empty, it's over, wow, what a thing.

:) I think you're right. We never ate out a lot until we moved to Michigan, and at home I don't take chances with food, change my washcloths every day, even several times while doing dishes, wipe things down--oh, you know, all that stuff. We went to this one local restaurant, and I wasn't very happy at the time with how not so clean the wait staff seemed and a few things, but had a nice breakfast of eggs. Six hours later, *bam*.

I was never so ill, once is plenty. A lot of people go to this restaurant, and it really worries me. Small town, though, so I don't say much about it.

I'm so glad you're feeling better, hopefully no more of that for you, too :)

Ok, I'm a day late but I still want to say Happy Birthday and how nice it is to see you around here. Not that I'm around here myself.:)
I don't find mirrors to be the enemy so much. Mirrors can be fooled and cajoled and placated. Now cameras! Cameras are the devil!!!!

hahahaha, you are so right! Sometimes I can leave a mirror going, "all right, not so bad"...but cameras? *Never!* they're just mean :)
