Why is it that people post things in travel communities which essentially run "I've got a hotel booked and flight tickets to [Location]. Now, what do you recommend I do while I'm there

I don't really get them either. Surely there's got to be *something* that drew you to the place you booked tickets for? Right?

I get taking off someplace you've never heard of during your trip, but that would be a daytrip to someplace not far away. But spending thousands of dollars on a trip to someplace you know nothing about? Doesn't make sense.
