I was chatting with a biologist friend of mine, and during our discussion we came upon the idea that if homo sapiens hadn't developed technological dominance, some other primate species would've done it instead ( Read more... )

Remember - Homo Sapiens didn't exist at first either. It developed out of some other species of monkeys which had acquired to walk on two limbs and crossbred with other such apes or similar apes too. (Today, anthropologists say, even walking on two limbs is still a process that isn't finished yet.) Even that took its sweet time.

If you come to speak of "dominant species which take the whole planet for themselves because nothing stops them"...
Well, the earth already had this before. As dinosaurs prospered. It isn't the first time that evolution takes such a turn.
