It's not normal sorry. I'm all about kitties, but invasive species are a horrible side effect of human negligence. We're losing half our waterways due to snakefish, crops to stink bugs, forests to kudzu...it's not a paltry preference. Now, this doesn't mean wipe out pets or cats - but we've long had other reasons to keep cats from running rampant (mostly because it sucks to be a feral cat - spay or neuter blah blah).

At least that's my take - I like cats, and I like maintaining nature's slow progression with diversity.

In Florida we have seen some songbird species go extinct in my lifetime. I don't thing the question is "why do we need them". I think they had a right to be here.

Because of brazillian peppers are here, crowding out native plants and trees, a lot of birds and bugs don't have a place to live any more. Ditto Malaleuka.

No doubt about it: this is survival of the fittest. I just think it's sad that we're saying goodbye to old friends.
